Sihanoukville Autonomous Port (PAS) of Cambodia will be able to handle direct large-scale freight transport with the U.S., European counties and the world by 2030.
H.E. Sun Chanthol, Senior Minister and Minister of Public Works and Transport, shared the optimism with local media after the launching ceremony of Sustainable Infrastructure Programme in Asia under the theme "Enhancing Regional Freight Connectivity for South East Asia" in Siem Reap province this morning.
According to the minister, to achieve the ambition, Cambodia is planning to build a new deep-sea container port whose construction process will be divided into three phases.
The first phase of 14.5 metres deep will be broken ground on May 1 under the presidency of Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, he added.
Once the construction completed, pointed out H.E. Sun Chanthol, the new container port will be capable of handling up to 93 percent of all ships travelling in the Asia Pacific, up from the current 18 percent.
