Cambodia Calls for Increase of Measures to Adapt to Climate Change

Cambodia has called for all high greenhouse emission countries to increase the measures to adapt to climate change, especially complete their promised US$100 Billion for the field.
The appeal was made by H.E. Say Samal, Minister of Environment when addressing his remarks in the 27th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27) in Sharm el-Sheikh city, Egypt on Nov. 15.
H.E. Say Samal underlined that Cambodia has distributed approximately 2.3 percent of its GDP for activities on climate change, increasing the use of renewable energy, forest protection, and preparation of judicial norms, policies, and strategies.
Cambodia’s strategies include Carbon-neutral long-term development strategy, and Cambodia’s Updated Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) for the implementation of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), which will contribute to supporting the sustainable development although there is climate change, said the minister.
Cambodia has become a lower-income to lower middle-income country and is evolving to be an upper middle-income economy by 2030 due to the country’s peace, political stability and economic growth for the last two decades, continued the minister.
Cambodia, as the rotating ASEAN Chair, has established an initiative on “ASEAN Green Deal” to re-orient ASEAN toward a green future that is sustainable and economically competitive, he added.
