Cambodia and Malaysia Commit to Boosting Tourism and Cultural Exchange


Phnom Penh: H.E. HUOT Hak, Minister of Tourism, welcomed H.E. Dato’ Sri Tiong King Sing, Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture of Malaysia, and his delegation at the Shangri-La Hotel to discuss enhancing tourism cooperation between Cambodia and Malaysia.



According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, both ministers emphasized the critical role of tourism in fostering economic growth and strengthening people-to-people connectivity. They expressed satisfaction with the current state of tourism cooperation and agreed on the need to further develop new tourism products, organize joint tourism events, and promote more direct flights between the two countries’ destinations.



Additionally, they explored the potential for Muslim-friendly tourism and proposed arranging FAM trips for investors and tour operators to attract more tourists. The Malaysian Minister praised Cambodia’s peace, political stability, and rapid development, noting these as vital for enhancing tourism cooperation and encouraging Malaysian tourists and investors to explore Cambodia.



The meeting underscored the importance of direct flights, such as those between Phnom Penh and Penang, in facilitating tourism growth. Last year, Cambodia saw a rise in Malaysian tourists, reaching 94,260, a 7.3 percent increase from 87,825 in 2025, as per the Ministry of Tourism’s report.
