Cambodia and India Collaborate on Quick Impact Projects in Education Sector


Phnom penh: The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (MoEYS) of the Kingdom of Cambodia and the Ministry of External Affairs of India, represented by the Embassy of India, have signed two Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) for the implementation of Quick Impact Projects (QIPs) in the education sector. The signing took place in Phnom Penh and involved H.E. Ms. Kim Sethany, Permanent Secretary of State, MoEYS, H.E. Dr. Hang Chuon Naron, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Youth and Sports, and H.E. Mr. Vanlalvawna Bawitlung, Ambassador of India to Cambodia.



According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the first project, the Climate-Resilient School Water System in Pursat Province, will see the installation of solar-powered water systems in five primary schools. This initiative aims to ensure safe access to clean water and promote hygiene and climate resilience. The second project, the Standard Model School Development Project in Kampong Cham Province, focuses on upgrading school infrastructure, enhancing sanitation facilities, and building the capacity of principals and teachers to transform the school into a model learning environment.



Since 2015-16, the Government of India has approved 69 Quick Impact Projects across Cambodia in sectors such as education, IT, agriculture, health, sanitation, women’s empowerment, and environmental sustainability. Of these, 8 projects have been implemented in collaboration with MoEYS, directly benefiting Cambodian schoolchildren and teachers.



“These initiatives reaffirm India’s strong commitment to Cambodia’s development priorities and highlight the deep-rooted friendship between the two nations,” emphasized the embassy.
