Cambodia and Hungary Seek Enhanced Cooperation Through Bilateral Consultations


Phnom penh: Hungary hosted the 2nd round of the Bilateral Political Consultations with Cambodia late last week to further enhance cooperation.



According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, this significant meeting was co-chaired by H.E. Ms. Chring Botumrangsay, Secretary of State at the MFAIC, and H.E. P©ter Szt¡ray, State Secretary for Security Policy and Energy Security of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary. The discussions marked the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations, set to occur in 2026.



During the meeting, both parties expressed satisfaction with their enduring friendship and cooperation. H.E. Ms. Chring Botumrangsay voiced Cambodia’s appreciation for Hungary’s contributions to the Kingdom’s socio-economic development. The discussions covered a broad range of political, economic, and developmental issues, identifying potential areas for enhanced collaboration such as trade and investment, water resource management, agriculture, energy, education, health, and tourism.



Both sides emphasized the importance of existing mechanisms like the Joint Committee on Economic Cooperation and the Business Forum to explore new avenues for collaboration. They also addressed key regional and international issues, reaffirming their shared commitment to fostering peace and stability through dialogue and cooperation.



In light of the Cambodia-Thailand border situation, H.E. P©ter Szt¡ray underscored the importance of peaceful dialogue and encouraged both parties to remain committed to resolving disputes amicably. The next round of Bilateral Political Consultations is anticipated to take place in Cambodia at a mutually convenient time.
