Kuala lumpur: H.E. Anthony Albanese, Prime Minister of Australia, has praised Cambodia’s efforts in combating cybercrime and online scams, noting that these challenges affect all countries.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the Australian leader made the remarks during a bilateral meeting with Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, on the sidelines of the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. H.E. Anthony Albanese also recalled his three previous visits to Cambodia and recognised the Kingdom’s potential in the tourism sector.
He further welcomed the progress in resolving the Cambodia-Thailand border dispute and valued the leadership of Samdech Thipadei in steering the peace process. For his part, Samdech Thipadei expressed appreciation for the growing friendship and cooperation between Cambodia and Australia following their bilateral meeting in March 2024 in Melbourne.
The Cambodian Premier highlighted that trade volume between the two countries reached nearly US$600 million in 2024 and thanked Australia for increasing the number of scholarships for Cambodian students at his request, from 50 to 62 in 2025. He also underscored progress in defence and security cooperation, noting the recent visit of the Australian Navy’s HMAS Ballarat to the Sihanoukville Autonomous Port and Ream Naval Base.
Both leaders agreed to continue strengthening and expanding cooperation between Cambodia and Australia across all areas of mutual interest.
