The ASEAN youth dialogue provides an opportunity for the youths to take part in building a new future for ASEAN in line with the Fourth Industry Revolution (4IR) context.

The remarks were made by Cambodian and ASEAN senior officials at a press conference following the closing ceremony of the 1st ASEAN Youth Dialogue in Siem Reap province on July 26.

H.E. Hang Chuon Naron, Cambodian Minister of Education, Youth and Sports, emphasised the importance of the dialogue, saying that this forum provided an opportunity to the youth representatives from the ten ASEAN member countries and South Korea to discuss face to face with ASEAN youth ministers and other senior officials on youth empowerment in COVID-19 response and regional integration.

Moreover, he continued, the youths can understand what ASEAN is doing and what ASEAN is doing is for the people, not just for economic or financial or political cooperation. For the future, young people also need to be prepared, especially in an age of competition.

H.E. Dato Lim Jock Hoi, ASEAN Secretary General, raised the advantages and challenges posed by the 4IR in the fields of education, economic and trade.

Mr. Teng Chankororatha, Reprentative of the Cambodian Youth Delegation, and Ms. Suhyin Kim, Representative of the Korean Youth Delegation, acknowledged the significance of the ASEAN Youth Dialogue for the youths so that they can develop themselves in accordance with the 4IR.

Themed “Youth in the Era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution: Opportunities and Challenges in the Post-Pandemic Recovery”, the 1st ASEAN Youth Dialogue focused on key eight topics: good governance; science, technology and innovation; job generation for the future; infrastructure and connectivity; inclusive growth; climate change; reduction of ASEAN’s development gap; and country-to-country exchanges.
