Preah Vihear:The Cambodian Liaison Group facilitated a visit by the ASEAN Observer Team in Cambodia (AOT-KH) to the An Ses Border Checkpoint area in Preah Vihear province on Wednesday morning to assess the situation following a ceasefire along the Cambodia-Thailand border.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the visit took place at 10:24 a.m. in Choam Ksan commune, Choam Ksan district, Preah Vihear province. It aimed to observe, verify, and report on the current circumstances in the region.
Since the ceasefire took effect on December 27, 2025, the Ministry of National Defence reports that the Thai military has engaged in activities such as deploying shipping containers, installing barbed wire, digging trenches, constructing fortifications, and destroying infrastructure, houses, and civilian property. These actions have resulted in the occupation of Cambodian territory in the An Ses area.
The Ministry stated that these developments have displaced 1,114 Cambodian civilians, comprising 357 families, including 711 women and 597 children, who are now unable to return to their homes.
Cambodia remains committed to protecting its international boundary with Thailand, as established by the Indochina-Siam Boundary Commission, while respecting international law principles such as the intangibility of inherited borders (Uti Possidetis Juris). The Ministry affirmed Cambodia's adherence to the Franco-Siamese conventions and treaties, as well as other agreements previously agreed upon by both sides.
The Ministry stressed that Cambodia does not recognize any border changes resulting from the use of force. The Royal Government and Ministry of National Defence reiterated their commitment to fully implement the Joint Statement of the Third Special Meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand General Border Committee of December 27, 2025, and the Joint Declaration on the Peace Agreement between Cambodia and Thailand of October 26, 2025.
These commitments aim to contribute to the swift improvement of the situation and the restoration of normalcy along the Cambodia-Thailand border.
