Phnom penh: The Cambodian Liaison Group (CLG) on Tuesday facilitated a field visit for the ASEAN Observer Team in Cambodia (AOT-KH) to observe, verify, and report on the situation along the Cambodia-Thailand border at a residential area in Techo Morakot village, Morakot commune, Choam Ksan district, Preah Vihear province. The visit, which began at 10:30 a.m., was led by the Head of Mission of AOT-KH from the Republic of the Philippines.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, a press release issued by the Spokeswoman of the Ministry of National Defence of Cambodia stated that the affected area comprises 114 civilian households, with a total of 511 people, including 268 women, who remain unable to return to their homes. The Ministry stressed that the affected residences are all homes of local civilians.

The press release further detailed that the area was attacked by Thai military forces in December 2025 through airstrikes involving F-16 fighter jets and various types of heavy artillery. The attacks caused severe damage and destruction to civilian homes, personal property, and civilian infrastructure, leaving many residents unable to safely return to their normal livelihoods.

Cambodia consistently extends its full support to the ASEAN Observer Team and emphasises the indispensable importance of strengthening the AOT's role and mandate to conduct on-site observations to verify the full and effective implementation of the ceasefire. Such on-site observations are aimed at promoting transparency, accountability, and mutual trust, underlined the Ministry.
