ASEAN, India to Conduct Maritime Exercise

ASEAN and India will conduct a joint maritime exercise to commemorate the 30th anniversary of their relations.

The organisation of ASEAN-India maritime exercise was agreed in principle by the ASEAN Defence Senior Officials’ Meeting (ADSOM) hosted by Cambodia on May 17 in Phnom Penh under the chairmanship of H.E. Gen. Nhem Sovath, Special Advisor to Cambodia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence, Director General of the General Department of Policy and Foreign Affairs of the Ministry of National Defence and Chair of ADSOM.

The details of the exercise will be further discussed by relevant working groups, said a press release issued at the end of ADSOM.

At the same time, it continued, the meeting agreed to hold four Defence Ministers’ informal meetings, two of which are scheduled during the ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting (ADMM) in June 2022 and two others are ADMM Retreats.

Besides, the ADSOM approved seven important documents to be submitted to the ADMM, and reviewed the content of the draft joint communiqué of ADMM 2022 to be hosted by Cambodia under the theme “Solidarity for harmonised security”, added the same source.
