Angkor Wat’s Southeast Bakan Platform Restoration Completed

APSARA National Authority's restoration team has completed the third phase of the restoration project of the southeast Bakan platform of Angkor Wat. The status was shared in the authority's news release issued on Jan. 10. The restoration project of the southeast Bakan platform of Angkor Wat began in early January 2023 and was completed with the repair of 292 broken stones, which were dismantled from each corner, said a technical officer of the Department of Conservation of Monuments and Preventive Archaeology, Mr. Kheam Mony, in the release. The technical team also restored the damage to many other areas and strengthened the structure of the whole temple. The southeast Bakan platform of Angkor Wat was damaged by tree roots growing into the stone gaps and the foundation, causing the stones to tear apart, which then collapsed due to rainwater. The completion of the restoration of Angkor Wat's Bakan Tower will allow it to serve again as a main location for tourists to visit. Source: Agence Kampuchea Pres se
