A French Surveillance Frigate Visits Cambodia

The French Floreal-class frigate Prairial (F731) has been paying a visit to Cambodia since Mar. 24, 2023 to further deepen the bond of solidarity and friendship between the two countries’ navies and peoples.

Upon the docking at Sihanoukville Autonomous Port (PAS) in Preah Sihanouk province, Mr. François Maignan, Commander of Prairial (F731), had a courtesy call on Mr. Long Dimanche, Deputy Governor of Preah Sihanouk province.

In the meeting, Mr. Long Dimanche briefed his guest on his province’s potential and reiterated Cambodia’s stance to welcome all foreign vessels to foster the cooperation in the areas of tourism, military or maritime security.

For his part, Mr. François Maignan thanked Preah Sihanouk provincial authorities for the warm welcome and lauded the fast development of the coastal province compared to his previous visit seven years ago.

According to the Embassy of France in Cambodia, the five-day port call allows exchanges in particular with Gen. Neang Phat, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Defence, PAS Deputy Director General Mr. Thong Viro, and Commander of Ream Naval Base, Vice-Admiral Ouk Seyha, besides Mr. Long Dimanche.

This is also an opportunity to recall France's desire to strengthen its relations with Cambodia in an Indo-Pacific strategy that promotes respect for sovereignties, the embassy underlined.
