Phnom penh: Cambodian Military Region 4 and Thai Army Area 2 convened a special meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand Regional Border Committee (RBC) at the O’Smach border checkpoint in Oddar Meanchey province. This meeting focused on the removal of heavy and destructive weapons and equipment, following the discussions held at the Special Regional Border Committee (RBC) Joint Secretariat Meeting earlier in the day.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the meeting was co-chaired by Lieutenant General Pov Heng, commander of Cambodia’s Military Region 4, and Major General Virakyuth Raksing, Commander of the 2nd Army Area of Thailand. The session included participation from the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT) based in Cambodia and Thailand, tasked with monitoring, verifying, and ensuring the effective implementation of the ceasefire agreement.
H.E. Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata, Spokeswoman for the Cambodian Ministry of National Defence, stated that both parties agreed on a concrete plan for the gradual and phased removal of heavy and destructive weapons and equipment under AOT observation and verification. This plan aims to de-escalate military tension between the two countries.
The meeting underscored the commitment of both nations to the agreements in the Joint Declaration between Cambodia and Thailand, signed by Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet and Thai Prime Minister, in Kuala Lumpur on Oct. 26, 2025. The declaration was witnessed by U.S. President Donald J. Trump and Malaysia’s Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, and it aligns with the outcomes of the 2nd Special Meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand General Border Committee (GBC) held in Malaysia on Oct. 23, 2025.
The meeting concluded at 3:47 PM, with both sides signing Agreed Minutes on “the Removal of Heavy and Destructive Weapons and Equipment,” reaffirming their commitment to fully implement this significant document. Cambodia hopes this step will contribute to peace, stability, and a return to normalcy in the region.
