Phnom penh: The Cambodia-Thailand Joint Coordinating Task Force (JCTF) on Humanitarian Demining convened a virtual meeting this afternoon to discuss and identify a pilot area in the priority border regions for humanitarian demining efforts.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the meeting aligned with the objectives of the First Special Meeting of the General Border Committee (GBC) and will be executed following the JCTF’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOP). H.E. Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata, Spokeswoman of the Ministry of National Defence of Cambodia, emphasized that the identification of the pilot area will adhere to specific criteria, conditions, and positions agreed upon by both nations.
The spokeswoman further clarified that the humanitarian demining activities will proceed without affecting the survey and demarcation of the land boundary, which remains under the jurisdiction of the Joint Boundary Commission (JBC). The post-mined clearance areas will be maintained in their original condition until the JBC reaches a decision.
Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata reiterated that the humanitarian demining operations will respect the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity.
