TVET SKILLS CAN HELP OPEN OWN BUSINESS- TVET ALUMNI

Skills training in various fields of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) offered by agencies and educational institutions are capable of providing opportunities for youths to start their own businesses.

A TVET alumni, Mohd Hairul Ithnin, who runs a VC-Pro product business, said the skills and knowledge he acquired through TVET were beneficial and enabled him to open his own business.

"I attended Giatmara in Segamat, Johor,in 2001. Since my interest is in business, and with the knowledge and skills I got from TVET, I was able to open my own business," he told Bernama at the TVET@KKDW 2023 Expo, Bertam Square today.

He hoped that the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development (KKDW) can organize more TVET@KKDW 2023 Expo programmes to promote awareness, attract interest and increase the number of students attending TVET courses.

Another is entrepreneur, Nur Azaidatul Arnica Mahabharata, 30, who runs a baking business from home. She said that the TVET skills have helped her manage her business more efficiently.

"I started my business from home in 2014 and then attended TVET training to gain more knowledge and skills.

I applied whatever I learned to ensure my business grows. My next move is to open my own bakery shop soon,” she said.

Meanwhile, a visitor at the expo, Wahida Azizan, 44, who is a pharmaceutical officer, said the TVET@KKDW Expo 2023 is a platform that can provide better insight for Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia students to decide on the skills courses they intend to join.

“This programme is good. As parents, I also get to know about TVET programme at this expo,” she added

The three-day TVET@KKDW Expo, which ends tomorrow, is at Bertam Square, Kepala Batas.

It is a programme to promote various skills training programmes of TVET offered by agencies and educational institutions under KKDW.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi are scheduled to close the expo tomorrow.
