(LEAD) Exit polls project landslide victory for DP

The main opposition Democratic Party (DP) and its affiliated party are expected to win a massive victory in Wednesday's general elections, exit polls showed. The DP and the Democratic United Party, the DP's so-called satellite sister party that only targets proportional representation seats, are expected to secure a combined 178-196 seats in the 300-member National Assembly, according to a poll conducted by public broadcaster KBS. The ruling People Power Party (PPP) and its affiliated People Future Party are likely to win 87-105 seats, the poll showed. Another poll by major broadcaster SBS showed the DP and its ally sweeping 183-197 seats, and the PPP and its affiliated party securing 85-100 seats, while a poll by broadcaster MBC showed the DP and its affiliate party winning 184-197 seats, with the PPP and its affiliated party securing 85-99 seats. The poll conducted by cable broadcaster JTBC showed the DP and its satellite party winning 168-193 seats, and the PPP and its sister likely to win 87-111 sea ts. Up for grabs are 300 seats, with 254 of them to be selected through direct elections and the remaining 46 proportional representation seats to be allocated to parties according to the number of votes they receive overall.
