Kampot Shows Off Giant Seahorse Statue to Welcome New Year

Coastal Kampot province is boasting tourists with its newly constructed giant statue of a seahorse at its most visited river bank, spouting water from its mouth into the beautiful Kampong Bay stream. During his inspection visit to the site, Kampot Provincial Governor H.E. Mao Thonin on April 9 expressed his optimism that the statue and welcoming decoration around it will further attract more tourists to the province. The statue, which stands at eight metres high, was decorated in a way that is also colourfully attractive at night. The existence of seahorses implies a rich biodiversity in the water, and the animal is among many other marine species residing in Kampot's sea. With that perspective, the statue of the seahorse was built in the tourist province of Cambodia, particularly to welcome visitors during the coming Khmer New Year on April 13-16. According to H.E. Mao Thonin, Kampot is noticeably rich with cultural and natural tourist attractions, providing a broad range of options for tourists of dif ferent interests. The province is also showing off its new park along the river bank with an astonishing view. Source: Agence Kampuchea Presse
