Running Race in Kandal Province Attracts Nearly 5,000 Runners

Almost 5,000 runners participated in a three- and five-kilometre race held yesterday in Takhmao town, Kandal province as part of the River Festival.

H.E. Thong Khon, Minister of Tourism, President of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia (NOCC) and President of River Festival Organising Commission, fired the starting gun.

According to NOCC Secretary General H.E. Vat Chamroeun, the participating runners are the general public, especially lower secondary and high school students.

Different sports competitions ranging from running, chess, swimming, cycling to boat racing, boxing, wrestling and football have been organised during the three-day River Festival.

River Festival 2018, the fourth of its kind, has been taking place from Mar. 9 to 11 in Takhmao, some ten kilometres from Phnom Penh capital, under the theme River of Peace, Friendship and Sustainable Tourism. The event will be officially opened this evening under the presidency of Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen and his spouse Samdech Kittiprittbandit Bun Rany Hun Sen.

The first three river festivals were organised in Kratie in 2015, Kampong Cham in 2016 and Stung Treng in 2017.
