Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen presided over here this morning the inauguration ceremony of the Indoor Stadium of Aquatic Centre in Morodok Decho Sport Complex.
Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia H.E. Xiong Bo was also present on the occasion.
The indoor facilities inaugurated include an international-standard swimming pool, and game halls.
Meanwhile, the Cambodian premier also presided over the groundbreaking ceremony of the "Main Stadium" of Morodok Decho Sport Complexworth some US$157 million, funded by the Government of the People's Republic of China.
On the occasion, Samdech Techo Hun Sen expressed his profound thanks to all stakeholders, especially China, for their contribution to the promotion of Cambodian sports sector.
"Morodok Decho Sport Complex shows the friendship and close cooperation between Cambodia and China. This sports centre will contribute to the development of the sports sector in Cambodia," he underlined.
The Morodok Decho Sport Complex project covers an area of 85 ha in Sangkat Prek Tasek, Khan Chroy Changvar, near the Ly Yong Phat bridge, Phnom Penh, and would complete in 2021, two years before Cambodia hosts the biennial SEA Games.
The construction of the Main Stadium will reflect the true Khmer culture, along with enough air and light and green scenery. It will be surrounded by water and can accommodate up to 60,000 visitors.
