Cambodian Minister of Tourism H.E. Thong Khon has initiated free smoking tourism in the Kingdom.
Addressing at the 7th Asia Pacific Smoke-Free Meeting themed Smoke Free: Linking Cities to Advance Tourism and Preserve Our Heritage held in Siem Reap province on Nov. 28-29, H.E. Thong Khon said Cambodia is expanding its smoke-free tourism territories.
The establishment of a smoke-free city has contributed significantly to the development of green tourism in the temples and eco-tourism sites, he underlined.
The minister urged concerned ministries, competent institutions and other stakeholders, especially Siem Reap authority to start with transforming the "Pub Street" in Siem Reap into a smoke-free and clean area.
The Royal Government of Cambodia regarded tourism as a "green gold" that contributes to socio-economic development as well as environment conservation and preservation of traditional culture, temples and other ancient treasures.
Smoke-free setting in tourism is also a principle that the Ministry of Tourism has adopted in order to promote healthy practices.
Currently, the Royal Government has already set up a smoke-free environment working group in tourism to work directly with key stakeholders in ensuring that Cambodia is developing a green and smoke-free tourism industry.
