Cambodia's Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) and Vietnam Cashew Association (VINACAS) reached here yesterday a Memorandum of Understanding on cashew production promotion in Cambodia for export.
The signing ceremony took place under the presidency of Minister of MAFF H.E. Veng Sakhon, President of VINACAS Mr. Nguyen Duc Thanh, and Ambassador of Vietnam to Cambodia H.E. Vu Quang Minh.
The MoU is aimed to boost cashew production, yield collection and drying technique transfer, investment, to connect farmers to markets, and to promote research in order to improve farmers' livelihoods, reduce poverty, and boost the economic growth.
According to H.E. Veng Sakhon, Cambodia yielded some 104,000 tons of cashew nuts in 2016 and the country is doing its best to reach the target of 1 million tons in the near future to meet the market demand.
Mr. Nguyen Duc Thanh thanked the Royal Government of Cambodia, especially MAFF for supporting and providing favorable conditions for VINACAS' investment in Cambodia.
