The European Union (EU) has announced a grant allocation of EUR 3.5 million to the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC) in support of the ECCC's 2018 budget, said the ECCC in a press release issued this morning.
Of the total amount, EUR 2.25 million will be allocated for the international component and EUR 1.25 million for the national component of ECCC, it pointed out.
According to the same source, the EU is one of the largest donors to the ECCC and this last installment brings the total financial assistance provided by the EU to EUR 22.70 million since the court's inception in 2006.
On behalf of the ECCC, we would like to express our gratitude for the generous and continuous support offered by the EU. This financial support will contribute to the continuity of the work of the court to achieve justice for the atrocities of the Democratic Kampuchea regime of 1975-1979, said Acting Director of Administration H.E. Tony Kranh and Deputy Director of Administration Knut Rosandhaug in a joint statement.
