More than one million domesticated animals were slaughtered for rising meat demand across Cambodia.
According to a report by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Cambodia has 148 slaughterhouses and about 1.3 million livestock were butchered in 2016.
Throughout the year, up to 55,292 cows, 1,155 buffaloes, 299,871 pigs, and 994,454 hens were slaughtered to meet domestic demand for meat consumption.
Slaughterhouses in Battambang and Kampong Thom provinces supplied most livestock meats.
