Cambodian PM Condemns Lynch Mob

Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen condemned here this morning the lynch mob, especially in traffic accident case.

This condemnation was made when the Premier held a get-together with more than 15,000 workers and employees from five different factories and enterprises in Chrey Koang area, Khan Pursenchey, Phnom Penh.

In this context, Samdech Techo Hun Sen requested all competent authorities to take legal action against the perpetrators of the latest case of Dr. Suy Sareth, a Professor at the University of Cambodia, after an alleged hit-and-run.

We don't welcome such cruel act. We must condemn it. We call on the public to respect the traffic law, but not to punish anyone illegally like this. If an individual commits something wrong, s/he must be arrested and handed over to the competent authorities to take action in accordance with the law, he underlined.

This is not the Khmer's civilisation and morality, added Samdech Techo Prime Minister.

Dr. Suy Sareth is still in a hospital in Vietnam after being brutally beaten in a lynch mob on Mar. 11 in Khan Tuol Kork's Tek La'ak II commune, Phnom Penh. Three of 10 suspects have been so far arrested and charged.
