The fifth mandate Royal Government of Cambodia (RGC) has paid high attention to the development of education sector as it is the backbone of the national economic development.
The RGC has successively increased the budget allocated for the education sector and built schools throughout the country so as all children have access to education. As a result, this sector has seen much progress both in quantity and quality.
According to the brief report on the RGC's major achievements from 2013-2017, 431,510 children aged under five and 201,046 children aged five had access to all forms of education services for the 2017-2018 academic year.
During the same period, over 2.02 million students were enrolled at state-owned primary schools, about 605.100 students at lower secondary schools and some 303,800 students at high school.
Besides, there were 20,500 students pursuing their associate's degree, 165,300 their bachelor's degree, 20,200 their master's degree, and 1,200 their doctoral degree.
To date, Cambodia has 121 higher education institutions, 633 high schools, 1,884 lower secondary schools, 7,621 primary schools and 4,632 kindergartens.
