CAMBODIA: SANGKRANTA FESTIVALS TO GET A BIG CULTURAL PUSH

SIEM REAP, Cambodia The Tourism Ministry has urged tourism departments in all provinces and tour operators across the country to promote the Angkor Sangkranta festival to attract locals and foreigners to the events, the Khmer Times reported.

The sixth edition of the festival will run from Saturday to Monday, the days of the Khmer New Year, according to the Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia (UYFC).

The body is responsible for managing and organising the Angkor Sangkranta in Siem Reap province.

Angkor Sangkranta is a cultural event annually organised to celebrate Cambodian New Year in Siem Reap, home to the famous Angkor Wat Temple.

This year, other provinces would also hold the Sangkranta festival which is expected to attract about two million tourists.

Other provinces holding the festivals this year include Battambang, Banteay Meanchey, Kandal, Prey Veng, Ratanakkiri, Mondulkiri, Kratie and Kampong Chhnang, along with Phnom Penh.

The events are expected to generate about US$200 million from tourism.
