Some 2.1 Million Foreign Tourists Visit Cambodia in First Five Months

Cambodia has welcomed some 2.1 million international visitors during the first five months of this year, said H.E. Thong Khon, Minister of Tourism in a meeting here this morning.

The figure shows an increase by 530 percent compared with the same period of 2022, added H.E. Minister, stressing that at the same time, the country registered a total of about 10 million internal tourists.

Cambodia is forecasted to attract around 4 million international tourists and at least 16 million domestic tourists in 2023, he said.

According to H.E. Thong Khon, this is a good sign and is in line with the projections stated in the Roadmap for Recovery of Cambodia Tourism During and Post-COVID-19 crisis, which is expected to take five years to recover to a similar level before the crisis, i.e. in 2025 or at the latest in 2026 under the U-shape for foreign tourists (V-shape for domestic tourists).

In 2019, the pre-pandemic era, the country registered 6.6 million international tourists, generating US$4.92 billion in revenue that contributed 12.1 percent to the country's Gross Domestic Product.
