KRT ACTIVITIES FOSTER GOODWILL IN MULTIRACIAL COMMUNITY ON NATIONAL DAY

The neighbourhood spirit of residents of various races in Taman Sri Derga Phase II here is translated into various goodwill activities in the Kawasan Rukun Tetangga (KRT) of the housing estate to build neighborhood goodwill and a harmonious atmosphere.

In conjunction with the 66th National Day today, members of the housing estate's KRT did not miss the opportunity to organise the National Day celebration by carrying out activities such as flying the Jalur Gemilang, lucky draws and aerobic exercise.

Taman Sri Derga Phase II chairman M. Pubalan said the residents of the housing estate are active in every programme organised by KRT by providing good cooperation to help make the programme a success.

"It is estimated that there are about 400 residents in Taman Sri Derga Phase II and we are a multiracial community including Malays, Chinese, Indians and Siamese. Whenever there is a community activity, almost all will cooperate to do the best," he said. when met by Bernama today.

Pubalan said that since becoming the chairman of the housing estate in 2016, he has not faced any problems in steering the KRT. In fact, the KRT Committee members are united and there is agreement in every action taken for the benefit of the residents of the housing estate.

"The residents of the park are with me... even in the KRT committee we have various races, there are Indians, Malays, Chinese. There is no competition for positions, I have been the chairman of this park since 2016. If you want to live in peace, don't associate it with (differences of opinion) politics , politics has its time...during election every five years," he said.

Meanwhile, Kota Setar/Padang Terap/Pokok Sena assistant unity officer who is also Taman Sri Derga Phase II KRT supervisor, Mohd Hazril Hamzah said the housing estate is one of the active ones in the Kota Setar district involved in organising unity activities.

"This is based on the meeting of this park’s KRT which meet the criteria set by the Ministry of Unity by holding such activities once a month.

"The topic of organising the programme is set by the Ministry of Unity, and the implementation of the programme is carried out with the creativity of KRT," said Mohd Hazril who also informed that there are 73 KRTs in the Kota Setar district.

Mohd Hazril said the residents of Taman Sri Derga Phase II showed high and good neighbourly spirit from the aspect of cooperation so that political differences did not come into the way to build a harmonious atmosphere of various races.
