Japan Re-assures Support for Success of Cambodia’s ASEAN Chairmanship

Japan has reaffirmed its full support for the success of Cambodia’s ASEAN Chairmanship.

The stance was re-assured by H.E. Mikami Masahiro, Ambassador of Japan to Cambodia, during a meeting here on July 18 with H.E. Prak Sokhonn, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

According to H.E. Chum Sounry, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the meeting focused on the strengthening of cooperation between Cambodia-Japan as well as ASEAN-Japan and the preparation for the success of the 55th AMM and Related Meetings to be hosted by Cambodia, the current Chair of ASEAN.

In the bilateral framework, Deputy PM Prak Sokhonn and Ambassador Mikami Masahiro discussed about the tentative programme of visit by H.E. Yoshimasa Hayashi, Minister for Foreign Affairs, particularly the requested courtesy call on Samdech Techo Prime Minister Hun Sen, the bilateral meeting between both Foreign Ministers, the signing of the Exchange of Notes and Related Documents on Japan’s Yen Loan and other activities. The Deputy PM and the Ambassador also touched on the commemoration of 70th Anniversary of the establishment of Diplomatic Relations between the two countries.

The ASEAN PMC + Japan, the 23rd ASEAN + 3 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, the 12th EAS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, the 29th ARF, the 15th Mekong-Japan Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, the proposed Seminar on ASEAN-Japan Cooperation and some important issues relating to these meetings were also discussed by the Deputy PM and the Ambassador.

Deputy PM Prak Sokhonn stressed in the discussion that as the Chair of all related meetings and with the cooperation and comprehension from all attending countries, Cambodia will try all its best for their smooth process and the comfortability of all participants.
