Japan Helps Improve Traditional Musical Instruments at Secondary School of Fine Arts

The Government of Japan will provide US$38,750 for the Secondary School of Fine Arts to support the Traditional Instrument Improvement Project. The Grant Contract was signed here on Mar. 20 between Japanese Ambassador to Cambodia H.E. UENO Atsushi, and the school's representative. According to the Embassy of Japan, this grant will be used to install 15 kinds of 24 Khmer traditional musical instruments at the Secondary School of Fine Arts in Phnom Penh. It is expected that teachers and students will have more chance to perform and practice these Khmer traditional musical instruments and will be able to expand and treasure the Khmer culture, the source underlined. The financial support was made under the framework, the Grant Assistance for Cultural Grassroots Projects 'KUSANONE', which directly contributes to the promotion of culture, sports, and higher educational activities and preservation of cultural heritage conducted by non-profit organisations that are active at the grassroots level in developing c ountries.
