First Khmer-Speaking Robot Introduced

A team of Cambodian engineers at the Cambodian Academy of Digital Technology (CADT) have put together their knowledge, skills, and resources to create Cambodia's first Khmer-speaking robot. Named Robocam Sok, the humanoid is able to verbally and physically interact with people, speaking the Cambodian language. Mr. Hoy Seiha, a third-year student at CADT, shared during the Cambodia-International Digital Government and Digital Technology Exhibition that his team develops software and gathers data to allow the AI-based Robocam Sok to communicate seamlessly in Khmer and English and translate between the two languages. The process included automatic speech recognition (speech-to-text), a chatbot to interpret the audio input, and text-to-speech to allow the robot to respond. The Cambodian Academy of Digital Technology is a national flagship research and education institution for digital technology and innovation, nurturing digital talent and innovators to drive Cambodia towards a digital society.
