FDAM URGES MEMBERS TO CONTRIBUTE TO SKSPS

KUALA LUMPUR, The Film Directors' Association of Malaysia (FDAM) has urged all its members to contribute to the Social Security Organisation's (Perkeso) Self-Employment Social Security Scheme for protection while working. Its president, Datuk Afdlin Shauki Aksan said members should take advantage of this opportunity by joining the scheme immediately, as there is always a risk for FDAM members to have accidents while on set. He said that the scheme has numerous benefits for FDAM members, particularly for those who have never contributed to any insurance scheme or do not have personal insurance. "When each member joins SKSPS, it at least provides coverage for any difficulties that might occur," he said in a statement today. Afdlin Shauki also said that FDAM welcomes the government's initiative through the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS) with Perkeso to offer SKSPS to creative industry practitioners, including its members. "FDAM is also grateful to the Ministry of Communications, FINA S and Perkeso for providing a 4,500 quota for creative industry practitioners to contribute through SKSPS. "This is also a golden opportunity for FDAM members because the contributions offered will be funded by FINAS for a year," he said. Earlier, FINAS had agreed to sponsor 4,500 local creative industry practitioners to contribute under Perkeso's SKSPS, with a total sponsorship worth RM104,850. Minister of Communications Fahmi Fadzil said that the sponsorship covers 10 percent of the annual SKSPS contribution worth RM232.80, which each contributor must pay for the protection scheme. This initiative is the result of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Ministry of Communications through FINAS and the Ministry of Human Resources (KESUMA) through Perkeso on April 23 to provide social safety net support to creative industry practitioners.
