Cambodian Top Leaders Congratulate the 161st Anniversary of World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day

Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet and Senate President Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen have extended their congratulations to the 161st Anniversary of the World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day on May 8. 'Today is the 161st Anniversary of the World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day, May 8, 2024 under the theme 'Together with the Cambodian Red Cross for a Healthy Community and Climate Resilience',' they said on their social media networks this morning. Samdech Techo Hun Sen took the opportunity to express his gratitude to Their Majesties the King and Queen-Mother for their support to the Cambodian Red Cross (CRC) and high attention to the citizens, and all national and foreign charitable people for their contribution and support to the CRC's humanitarian activities. At the same time, Samdech Moha Rathsapheathika Thipadei Khuon Sudary, President of the National Assembly, also sent a congratulatory message on the 161st Anniversary of the World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day, saying that this year's theme aims to demonstrate the CRC's commitment to continuing its efforts to strengthen and expand community-based primary health education and climate resilience in order to join the Royal Government of Cambodia in implementing key measures to prevent unprecedented global warming and strengthen health care services towards global health coverage, ensuring safety, health and improving the people's well-being and livelihoods. Every year, May 8 marks the World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day, a day to celebrate the principles, values, history and impact of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. This date is the anniversary of Henry Dunant's birth in 1828, the founding father of the Movement. He documented the terrible suffering at the Battle of Solferino, in Italy in 1859. His book A Memory of Solferino, gave rise to his humanitarian vision and led to the formation of voluntary relief societies for the purpose of having care given to the wounded in wartime without any distinction.
