ASEAN Chair Invites Cambodian New PM to 43rd ASEAN Summit in Jakarta Next Week


H.E. Joko Widodo, President of the Republic of Indonesia and Chair of ASEAN for 2023, has invited H.E. Kitti Tesaphibal Pundit Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, to attend the 43rd ASEAN Summit and Related Summits in Jakarta next week.



“[…], I would also like to cordially invite Your Excellency to participate at the 43rd ASEAN Summit and Related Summits in Jakarta on 5-7 September 2023. I also invite Your Excellency to participate at the ASEAN-Indo-Pacific Forum: Implementation of the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific in Jakarta, 5-6 September 2023,” wrote H.E. Joko Widodo in his congratulatory letter to H.E. Kitti Tesaphibal Pundit on his appointment as the new Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia.



According to the letter, Timor-Leste will also be invited to participate in the Plenary and Retreat meetings as during the 42nd ASEAN Summit.



“My wife and I would also like to invite Your Excellency’s spouse to participate to partake in the spouse program that specifically has been prepared during the 43rd ASEAN Summit and Related Summits,” the Indonesian president added.



H.E. Joko Widodo took the opportunity to reiterate his strong commitment to strengthen the collaboration between the two countries in various strategic areas, especially in the economic field.



“I have sent a special team to Cambodia to further explore cooperation in increasing rice imports from Cambodia to Indonesia. Prime Minister Hun Sen has responded positively, and I look forward to the same commitment from Your Excellency,” he said.
