Women’s Role in Cultural Preservation Promoted

Roles of women in cultural heritage preservation and conservation work in Cambodia will be the topic of a panel discussion this week.

Organised by the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts and U.S. Embassy in Cambodia, the panel discussion will be held at the National Museum in Phnom Penh on Mar. 13 from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm.

The discussion will explore the views, experiences, and roles of female cultural heritage professionals doing preservation and conservation work, said a press statement from the U.S. Embassy issued on Mar. 10.

U.S. Ambassador H.E. Patrick Murphy and H.E. Ms. Phoeurng Sackona, Minister of Culture and Fine Arts will be the moderator and one of the panelists, respectively, the statement read.

The event is also an opportunity to highlight the United States’ long-standing efforts to preserve Cambodian cultural heritage and the importance of female cultural heritage professionals, and to focus on an area of long-standing bilateral cooperation.

The embassy said the panel discussion is part of embassy’s activities for 70th anniversary theme for March of "Women and Gender Equality".

More than 70 participants are expected to join the panel discussion.
