Cambodia is scheduled to launch the first-ever public water transportation service linking Prek Pnov in the northern part of Phnom Penh to Takhmao town in Kandal province on April 6, according to a news release of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport.
In a recent inspection visit to the construction site of a station for the waterway passenger transportation service at the new Freedom Park along National Road No. 5, H.E. Sun Chanthol, Senior Minister and Minister of Public Works and Transport, said the boat-based service will contribute to reducing road traffic congestion and increasing traffic safety for passengers travelling in and out and crossing Phnom Penh capital everyday.
For the first stage, three boats, which can carry up to 60 passengers, will be used for the Prek Pnov-Takhmao route of 25 kilometres long with an average duration of 34 minutes and five stations: Prek Pnov, new Freedom Park, Night Market, Koh Pich and Takhmao.
