KUALA LUMPUR, Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP) made its debut in the prestigious Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings: Sustainability 2024.
In the latest edition of the rankings, UTP secured the 557th position globally, 129th regionally and 10th nationally from the 1,403 institutions assessed worldwide.
UTP vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Mohamed Ibrahim Abdul Mutalib said this recognition reflects UTP’s dedication to sustainability across all aspects of university life – from research and education to campus operations.
“We are honoured to be ranked alongside global institutions that share our commitment to making a positive impact on the world,” he said in a statement issued by the university today.
As a subsidiary of Petronas, UTP’s sustainability path is viewed through Petronas’ four sustainability lenses – ensuring continued value creation, bringing positive social impact, having responsible governance and safeguarding the environment.
“We collaborate closely with Petronas to explore how we can contribute to Petronas’ goal of achieving net-zero carbon emissions (NZCE) by 2050 through research, education and sustainable practices,” said Mohamed Ibrahim.
According to UTP, the achievement in the QS World University Rankings: Sustainability 2024 marks a significant milestone for the university which has produced over 23,000 graduates from more than 60 countries and the university remains committed in its pursuit towards sustainable global prominence.
The sustainability rankings, a vital measure of an institution’s commitment to addressing global challenges, are categorised into Environmental Impact (45 per cent), Social Impact (45 per cent) and Governance (10 per cent).
