Companies that conduct AI-based interviews will be obliged to give a detailed explanation to unsuccessful applicants on why they failed, the nation’s data protection watchdog said Friday.
The Personal Information Protection Commission (PIPC) said it will give a public notice until June 7 regarding a new administrative measure on protecting corporate applicants who are eliminated from AI-powered interviews due to automated decisions.
The new measure comes after the Regulatory Reform Committee said during a review of the Personal Information Protection Act’s enforcement decree in January that it is necessary to specify details to be taken by personal information processors.
Under the new measure, corporate job applicants who are disqualified after their personal information is analyzed in AI-based interviews can demand an explanation or a review of the interview process, the PIPC said.
The AI-based automated decisions that gravely affect the unsuccessful applicants’ rights and obligations will be suspended
, if the applicants reject them, the watchdog said. However, if they are aware of the automated process and consent to it, their right to reject it cannot be exercised, it noted.
