H.E. Ms. Michelle Bachelet, United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, has spoken highly of the economic development of Cambodia.
While holding talks with Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen in Geneva, Switzerland yesterday, H.E. Ms. Michelle Bachelet said the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) had acknowledged the Premier's leadership in bringing about rapid progress to Cambodia, especially in the socio-economic sector, according to H.E. Kao Kim Hourn, Minister Attached to the Prime Minister.
The UN High Commissioner welcomed Samdech Techo Hun Sen's presence at the 41st Session of the Human Rights Council and thanked Cambodia for accepting recommendations in response to strategic development goals as well as to the rule of law strengthening. She also affirmed the OHCHR's readiness to assist Cambodia in preparing and reviewing its mid-term report on human rights.
For his part, Samdech Techo Hun Sen briefed her on the evolution of human rights situation in Cambodia since the Khmer Rouge regime (1975-1979).
Moreover, Samdech Techo Hun Sen highlighted the cooperation between Cambodia and OHCHR and UN, the Royal Government's continued commitment to enhance democracy and human rights, including women empowerment, Samdech Techo Lawyer Group to assist poor women, and other issues related to human rights and development.
Samdech Techo Prime Minister invited H.E. Ms. Michelle Bachelet to pay a visit to Cambodia in an appropriate time, and the UN High Commissioner accepted the invitation.
