Number of road accidents saw a decrease of 23 percent or 942 cases in 2020 compared to the previous year, Samdech Kralahom Sar Kheng, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, quoted a recent report.
From January to December 2020, there were in total 3,179 road accident cases, down from 4,121 cases in 2019, said the report, adding that the fatal cases due to traffic accidents dropped to 1,646 in 2020 from 1981 in 2019.
Last year, 4,686 people were injured due to road accidents, down 1,455 cases or 24 percent, from 6,141 in 2019, it pointed out.
The trend indicates that Cambodians are better aware of traffic laws and accordingly abide by the laws.
Samdech Kralahom took the opportunity to express his appreciation to the authorities at all levels and road users who have been actively involved in the implementation of the traffic laws.
