The recipient of the Tokoh Maal Hijrah Award, to be announced at the national-level Maal Hijrah 1445H celebration tomorrow, has made significant contributions to uphold the status of Islam and benefit Muslim countries.
Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim) principal assistant director Zakaria Othman said the selection of the figure has been approved by the celebration main committee and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, before being proposed to Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.
“In terms of other activities, we want to invite all Muslims to join in the prayer ceremony for the end of the 1444 Hijrah year at the National Mosque at 7 pm today. Tomorrow, there will be special performances and tausiah by renowned preacher Datuk Dr Mohd Farid Ravi Abdullah,” he said when appearing as a guest on TV Al-Hijrah’s Assalamualaikum programme today.
Al-Sultan Abdullah and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah are scheduled to grace the celebration at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur tomorrow.
Meanwhile, Jakim Corporate Communications Unit senior assistant director Norzaidan Hamad said that unity would be the main theme of the celebration.
He also said the people need to understand the significance of Prophet Muhammad’s migration from Makkah to Madinah and his efforts to unify the Muslim and non-Muslim communities in Madinah.
“We need to instil the spirit of the Hijrah event in Malaysian society to promote unity despite our differences in race and religion,” he said at RTM’s Selamat Pagi Malaysia programme.
