Three More Community Cases of Omicron Detected, Says PM

Three more community cases of Omicron, a new COVID-19 variant of concern, were detected yesterday, Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen said at the inauguration ceremony of the Battambang-Serey Sophorn road portion in Battambang province this morning.

Cambodia has now in total 183 Omicron cases – 4 were locally transmitted and 179 were imported.

To further strengthen the herd immunity against the COVID-19, Samdech Techo Hun Sen encouraged the acceleration of the administration of the booster doses for the public, and reaffirmed the Royal Government’s commitment to find enough vaccines for the Cambodian people, adding that he ordered the purchase of 5 million doses of vaccines yesterday.

At the same time, Samdech Techo Hun Sen continued to call on the public to implement the health preventive measures, particularly the Three Dos, Three Don’ts.

According to the Ministry of Health, the first community case of Omicron was found on Dec. 8 on a 23-year-old Cambodian man who has no foreign travel history.
