The annual Sea Festival, organised in Sihanoukville, Preah Sihanouk province from Dec. 9 to 11, has attracted more than 700,000 visitors, of them some 708,000 are national tourists and 4,000 others are foreign visitors.

The figures were shared by H.E. Thong Khon, Minister of Tourism on Dec. 12, noting that they have enjoyed the festival both in the day and at night.

On the first two days of the festival, there were more than 400,000 visitors while the last day, up to over 300,000, he pointed out.

The festival featured many activities such as sports competitions, art performances, concerts, trade fair and food & beverage festival.

According to H.E. Thong Khon, Preah Sihanouk provincial authorities have extended the celebration for two more days – Dec. 12-13 – to bring more joys to local people and tourists as well as to cheers the 16th World Congress of the Most Beautiful Bays in the World being held in the province from Dec. 9 to 14.

Cambodia has organised the Sea Festival since 2011 on a rotating basis in the country’s four coastal provinces of Preah Sihanouk, Kep, Koh Kong and Kampot to promote the tourism potential of the coastal areas as well as to encourage the participation from the private sector, the general public as well as other stakeholders in preserving natural and cultural resources.

The celebration of Sea Festival was cancelled for two years, in 2020 and 2021, due to the COVID-19 outbreak. In 2019, the event took place in Kampot province in December with almost one million national and international tourists.

Cambodia’s coastline stretches about 450 kilometres in the four provinces. It became member of the Most Beautiful Bays in the World in mid-2011.
