Siem Reap Sankranta Resumption Mulled

Siem Reap provincial authority is mulling the resumption of the Siem Reap Sankranta for the up-coming Khmer New Year, April 14-16.

The intention was underlined by Siem Reap Provincial Governor H.E. Tea Seiha when chairing a meeting with his teams on Jan. 17, while pushing the priority to finish up the improvement of the province's road infrastructure.

Smaller events in February and March will be more opportunities for the province to test its management, especially in terms of COVID-19 containment, toward organising the Sankranta

According to the provincial governor, the completion of the 38 provincial road improvement is expected to be officially celebrated by Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen in either February or March.

He emphasised that to achieve the intended organisation of the Siem Reap Sankranta, it is essential to succeed the vaccination campaign and ensure thorough compliance with the safety measures among both the locals and visitors.

The annual Siem Reap Sankranta was postponed in 2020 and in 2021 due to COVID-19 threats.
