Ruling Party Supports Amendment to Constitution on Only Khmer Citizenship for National Leaders

The ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) has fully supported the amendment to the constitution regarding the requirement for single Khmer nationality for national leaders who hold the post of Senate President, National Assembly President, Prime Minister and Constitutional Council President.

The support was made in a statement of the CPP Central Committee’s Standing Committee released this evening.

At the same time, CPP absolutely rejected news articles accusing unfairly Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, President of CPP and Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, of buying nationality and passport from Cyprus.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen is the core of CPP and an outstanding leader of the people who has led the country with wisdom and courage to achieve great success for the Cambodian nation and people, the statement underlined.

The statement also called on all party members, civil servants, the armed forces and the compatriots to be united under the leadership of Samdech Techo Hun Sen to defend independence, sovereignty, peace, stability, democracy and development in Cambodia.
