Royal Government Issues Instruction to Prevent and Reduce Risks of Floods

The Royal Government of Cambodia (RGC) has instructed relevant ministries and institutions, local authorities and people to increase their vigilance in order to prevent and reduce the risks of flash floods.

According to the RGC's instruction signed yesterday by Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, all competent authorities are advised to be well prepared to evacuate people to safety areas.

The instruction was made following on-going low-pressure on Cambodia, causing subsequent heavy rainfalls. As a result, some provinces such as Kampot, Preah Sihanouk, Koh Kong, Kampong Speu, Battambang, and Pailin have been facing with flooding.

In addition, heavy rain is also hitting Laos and Thailand, thus increasing the Mekong water level, it added.

According to the National Committee for Disaster Management (NCDM), Kep province also suffered from floods this week.

In the seven provinces, 1,681 families have been evacuated from flood-stricken areas, while traffic along some roads are temporarily halted, and thousands of hectares of rice fields are under flood water.
