Royal Government Attorney Group Rejects Baseless Accusation of The Guardian

The Royal Government Attorney Group today issued a Statement of Objection, dismissing a recent article of The Guardian which accused Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen of holding Cypriot passport.

According to the Statement of Objection, on Sunday, Oct. 3, 2021, The Guardian, a news agency based in the United Kingdom, published an article titled "Law firm founded by Cypriot president accused of hiding assets of Russian exile", in which there was a baseless accusation that Samdech Hun Sen received a Cypriot passport.

“The Royal Government Attorney Group hereby rejects and dismisses the above article published by The Guardian, which is untrue, baseless, and misleading,” said the statement.

Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, has only one Khmer nationality, has no foreign citizenship, has no residence abroad, and has never run away from the people and the country of Cambodia, underlined the same source, adding that the news content stating that Samdech Hun Sen holds a Cypriot passport is completely lying and untrue.

“The Royal Government Attorney Group utterly rejects such accusation with an intent to mislead from the truth. The Royal Government Attorney Group is deeply disappointed by The Guardian, as a well-known news agency in Europe, for failing to follow professional ethical standards required from newspapers, and publishing such an unfounded and complete lying article,” it continued.

“Such false accusation contrary to the actual facts has given a chance to handful of evil opportunists to distort and exaggerate the facts leading to a worsening situation with the purposes of inciting people, stirring chaos, and destroying public order, security, and peace in the Cambodian society. The Royal Government Attorney Group hereby condemns all the misleading, exaggerating, and destructive behaviours of such handful evil opportunists,” read the statement.

The Royal Government Attorney Group requested The Guardian to publish an immediate retraction, and meanwhile, they will consider taking legal actions against The Guardian for such a false publication.
