Ministry of Interior has convened a consultation meeting on the request of civil society organisations to amend the Law on Associations and Non-Governmental Organisations (LANGO), according to local media report.
The meeting took place early this week in Phnom Penh under the chairmanship of the ministry's Secretary of State H.E. Bun Hun, Head of Government's Working Group in charge of Resolving NGOs and Civil Societies' Issues.
Senior officials of the ministry, representatives from NGOs and associations as well as other concerned officials participated in the meeting.
H.E. Bun Hun underlined the Royal Government of Cambodia's endeavour to work closely and in strong cooperation with civil society organisations.
According to a report from the Ministry of Interior, as of Aug. 2019, there are 2, 203 registered associations and 3,280 registered local NGOs.
Of the number, added the source, only about 1,634 local NGOs and associations have fulfilled well their legal obligations.
The Law on Associations and Non-Governmental Organisations was approved by the National Assembly on July 13, 2015.
