SAN ANTONIO, Aug. 7, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — Keep our pets out of politics! They are all that keeps us sane in this crazy world. Most pet owners are blissfully unaware of the threat to pet ownership from the Animal Rights Movement that exists today.
In a book review of Dr. David Fritsch’s “The Death of A Culture: Understanding the War: Animal Rights vs Animal Welfare,” E. M. Gilbert Jr. writes, “The author defines the issue: The issue is the presence of the legislative sweep itself. It is a created phenomenon. It is created by organizations committed to a cultural philosophy which is not in the interest of animal ownership and enjoyment. It is created specifically to eliminate our rights and relationship to our domestic animal. It is a war, calculated and organized by our enemies and we have not recognized that as yet. Neither have our local legislators.”
Every session of the Texas State Legislature, pet owners are hit with a plethora of animal related bills filed by legislators fulfilling campaign promises and unaware of the national legislative anti-pet agenda behind most of them. The bill titles are deceiving and rarely convey the actual convoluted text therein.
To be defeated, the “war” must first be acknowledged and the enemy “identified.” In 1993, the U.S. Department of Justice and Department of Agriculture examined the phenomenon of animal rights extremism in the United States and reported: “Many advocates of animal rights oppose all ways in which animals are confined and utilized by humans, whether it be for food, clothing, servitude, or household pets. All extremist animal rights groups are believed to be associated with each other by leadership, membership, or both.”
Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) is the largest and wealthiest “animal rights” organization in the world, with loosely affiliated state “humane” organizations, in addition to international affiliates. Under the guise of “animal protection” and “animal advocates,” IRS Tax Returns show only 1% of their $150 million annual budget actually goes to local pet shelters.
Charity Navigator, one of the most trust-worthy charity evaluators, downgraded HSUS from a 4-Star Rating to a 3-star Rating, and then revoked that rating this year. They issued a “Donor Advisory” warning instead due to a lawsuit, which involved HSUS allegedly paying a witness who lied to a federal court regarding treatment of the Barnum & Bailey Circus elephants. http://www.awesomeocean.com/2014/07/31/breaking-hsus-loses-charity-rating/.
Ending a decade of litigation, HSUS paid Ringling Bros. Circus $15.75 million to settle the RICO (as in racketeering and corrupt organizations) Lawsuit with ASPCA agreeing to pay $9.3 million to Feld Entertainment. These two national “animal rights” organizations appear to have similar goals.
Pets are only a small part of the radical Animal Rights Agenda, which is closely aligned with the extreme Environmental Movement. HSUS strives to eliminate all animal use — albeit in incremental regulatory steps — and this “war” will endure for our lifetime.
