Private Firms Plan to Install Some 200 EV Charging Stations across Cambodia

Two private companies have unveiled their business plans of investing in the installation of some 200 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations nationwide, as the government is boosting the use of EVs.

H.E. Sun Chanthol, Senior Minister and Minister of Public Works and Transport shared the plans at the inauguration ceremony of a new EV charging station based at the ministry on Nov. 29.

The two companies – EV Energy Tech and BYD, both are electric vehicle manufacturers – will start to install EV charging stations next year, he said.

The participation of private sector in the installation of EV charging stations will contribute to encouraging the public to turn to use EVs, H.E. Senior Minister stressed.

The royal government is committed to reducing pollution through the use of fuel-efficient vehicles and the switch to EVs, at least to 40 percent of total vehicles and 70 percent of motorcycles by 2050.

The ministry registered 556 EVs in January-October 2022, an 11-time increase over the same period last year.
